The moment I signed the contract for my new house in Yarraville I knew that I had a different speed of life ahead of me. I had no idea what to expect, but I must say I’m pleasantly surprised. It’s hard to walk down the street these days without receiving a smile from a stranger or a friendly greeting from a happy pup.
It goes without saying that there is an incredibly strong sense of community here and that comes with the feeling of being accepted unconditionally. It’s like being hugged by a lot of people (and dogs) all at once, just for being me.
This community feeling that I so thankfully felt as soon as the moving truck drove off has reminded me why I decided to start my own business. However small, and however terrifying, I knew that this was something I needed to do for myself. It reminded me of my admiration for local designers, farmers, cafes, etc. and my desire to be as supportive of small, local businesses wherever I can. Over a year after launching Lambchopsocks, moving into my new home and spending many nights late at work, I do not regret a thing. I have moved mountains and I have moved steadily. Now I bring to you, fun socks.
Life has become less about keeping busy and I have realised here, in this village I get to call home, that business is not synonymous to achievement. Achievement comes with the rewarding sense of moving at my own pace, knowing that I am exactly where I need to be, going where I need to go and designing fun socks for the people I want to surround myself with.
So thank you; for reading, for loving your locals and for allowing me to be me. Most importantly, thank you for allowing me to provide you with socks online in Australia, because nothing is more important than expressing your individuality!
