My dryer had been keeping a filthy secret
👀 Confession time, sock lovers…
My tumble dryer has been giving off a horrific burning rubber smell
and every load of washing came out smelling like it had a part time job
at a tyre factory.
Naturally, I did what any sensible adult would do:
🔍 Googled it.
And kept seeing people mention a mysterious “trap door” in the dryer.
A trap door?!
What is this, a secret laundry dungeon? 😅
For years, I’ve proudly emptied the door filter, pulled out the fluff and smugly thought:
“Look at me, being all responsible and safe.”
Turns out…my dryer had been keeping secrets. 🤦♀️
I opened the hidden compartment and found another massive filter
sliding out like it had been waiting for its moment.
It was absolutely coated in damp, dusty slimy gunk
and needed a serious wash.
Then I checked the compartment where it lived…
and after vacuuming out about five years of mystery crud, I found the culprit:
🧦 An odd Lambchopssock
Yep.
The sock maker was betrayed by one of her own socks.
The drama. The disrespect.
This rogue little sock wasn’t supposed to be tumble dried, but somewhere along the way it sneaked into the machine, ended up in the dryer’s secret underworld,
and basically created that lovely burning rubber odour.
So yes…
it took me approximately five years to find the gunk spot. 💀
Please tell me I’m not the only one who didn’t know dryers have hidden fluff zones where odd socks go to disappear forever?
✨ Moral of the story:
Check your dryer manual for hidden filters
Wash small items in a mesh laundry bag
And never trust a Lambchopssock to behave inside an appliance
Cheeky on your feet.
Slightly less welcome inside your appliances. 😏
